ALBANY, GA -- The Albany State Golden Rams offense clicked to the tune of four first half touchdowns in Saturday’s homecoming win- it was that second half where ASU seemed to be enjoying the homecoming festivities too early.
Even with the 37-13 win over the Benedict Tigers, the Albany State coaching staff wasn't pleased with the second half performance
The offensive unit finished with six points and six first downs in the final two quarters to go along with 11 penalties for 82 yards. With the playoffs in mind, ASU Offensive Coordinator Uyl Joyner knows that second half output won't be enough in the future.
“It was a tale of two halves. We played pretty good in the first half, but the second half…too many penalties. We've got to tighten up on the penalties and it's going to take two halves to win next week, so it's back to the drawing board for us,” Joyner said.
The Golden Rams will be drawing up those plays for their regular season finale against rival Fort Valley State. The 27th Annual Fountain City Classic kicks off from Columbus next Saturday at 2 PM
Fort Valley St. (2-4, 2-7) is suffering through a tough season, but there is still a lot on the line for ASU. The Golden Rams will take the SIAC’s eastern division with a win, and seal their spot in the Nov.12 SIAC championship game.
