ALBANY, GA -- The Albany High School football team had a total of two wins in its previous two seasons. However, Saturday night the Indians put the past behind them in a 39-7 victory over city rival, Dougherty High, at Hugh Mills Stadium.

The youth movement has come and gone for Albany. Now the kids are all grown up- at least they showed the maturity for one week.

Indians quarterback Emmanul Byrd amassed six total touchdowns- four through the air and two on the ground. Byrd hooked up with senior wide out Jaconiah Jackson for three of those scores. The offense wasn’t the only piece of the Albany team clicking as the defense held the Trojans scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.

Byrd believes Saturday night’s victory sets the tone for the rest of the 2011 Indian season.

“It's up there with the top (wins) because it's a cross-town rivalry, and we put up some good numbers …played a good game both offense and defense,” Byrd said. “You know how our last season went…going 2-8 and we're still hungry from that. I guess this just pushed us to make a good impression on the opening game.”
