ALBANY, GA -- The Darton College softball team enjoyed a spring break this week just like every other Cavalier student. Except, they chose an abridged version of the college holiday.
The Cavs players returned to practice Thursday and Friday morning in preparation of Sunday's game against Gordon College…by choice.
The team returned back in town hoping there would be a numerical ranking next to its Darton College name. While 10 straight wins convinced the team it deserved a NJCAA national ranking, the actual voters felt otherwise.
Head coach David Dews was surprised by the polls omission of the Cavs, but Dews knows there’s a lot left in the season.
“It was an important thing for the girls, they’ve worked really hard and we just came up a little short. You never know how those things are going to go, but I’d be lying to you if I didn’t tell you I was a little disappointed because we did put together a pretty good record…I thought we would be able to break in there,” Dews said.
After an eight day break, the Cavaliers start with a doubleheader on Sunday against starting at 3 pm. The team has been on the right side of the scoreboard 16 out of the last 17 games.
