BMX State Qualifier Begins at Cheehaw

The first BMX state qualifier of 2011 kicked off and slang mud Saturday afternoon at Cheehaw Park. Several local riders used the home track to their advantage.

Cole Acord of Sylvester won in the 20 inch and Cruiser classes and Devin Harris of Leesburg won the Nine-rookie class.

Acord and Harris weren’t the only locals to see success Saturday. Three youngsters are coming up quickly on their back wheel’s.

Austin Johnson (Eight-rookie), Nicholas Wiley (Seven-rookie) and Matthew Land (Six-rookie) beat out their respective competition in their first real racing competitions. The local Cheehaw BMX team finished 2nd in the overall standings. Crown Black from Atlanta took the overall title.
