DAEGU, South Korea (AP) — American sprinter Tyson Gay has won the 100 meters with a time of 9.94 seconds at the Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting.

Gay beat Asafa Powell of Jamaica, who finished second in 10.00 at the 66,000-seat Daegu Stadium.

In the women's 100 meters, Carmelita Jeter of the United States won in 10.83 seconds.

It was Tyson's third competition in less than a week. On Sunday, he clocked 9.69 seconds — equaling the second-fastest time ever — at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. He was slower Wednesday at Japan's Super Track and Field meet with a time of 10.13 seconds.
