NEW YORK (AP) -- Tim Lincecum has become the third-youngest winner of the National League Cy Young Award.
The 24-year-old San Francisco Giants hurler earned the honor after going 18-and-5 with a 2.62 ERA and a major league-leading 265 strikeouts. The second-year major leaguer received 23 of 32 first-place votes and 137 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Lincecum posted the NL's top winning percentage at .783. Not bad for a pitcher on a team that was 72-and-90 this year. Only Steve Carlton won a Cy Young while pitching for a team with a worse record, doing it with the 1972 Phillies.
Arizona's Brandon Webb received four first-place votes and finished with 73 points. New York Mets lefty Johan Santana was third in the balloting.
