ALBANY, GA -- A knee injury has shelved Albany State starting point guard Trey Gosier for the next two months. However, the Thomasville native is expected to return for the stretch run of the Golden Rams season.

According to ASU Head Coach Chris Cameron, Gosier had knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and will be out of the line up until mid January. A source told FOX 31 Sports that a medical redshirt had been discussed before Gosier’s successful surgery this week.

The freshman played in two games this season posting six assists in his debut against Georgia Southwestern. Albany State won its first game of the season last Friday against Carver College 93-68.

Coach Cameron added that transfer point guard Darshtyn Baker is healthy enough to fill Gosier’s void. Baker is returning from a hamstring injury. Albany State will also return its two leading scorers from last season’s line up when practice starts again on December 27.

Veteran guards Jaren Harris and Justin Wilcox missed the first half of the season due to personal reasons. Last season, Harris led the Golden Rams in scoring with 12 points per game.
