ALBANY, GA -- The Albany State Blue and Gold Game holds all the expectations of a football spring game.
“Competition level is high here at Albany State. At the same time, it’s a business. Everybody’s trying to get a starting position,” offensive lineman Victor Moli said. “Everybody’s going to play their best as if it’s a real game.”
But the Golden Rams do have a tradition unlike any other.
Created to spice up the competition, Coach Mike White started the battle of steak versus hot dogs. The winner between the offense and the defense feasting on steak, the loser stuck with bread and a dog.
“The offense is going to eat steak. It’s a competition, but we’re also going against our teammates, so we’ve been talking a lot of trash lately,” Moli said.
Last year, the offense received the spring game steak meaning Albany State’s “dirty” blue defense has all the motivation.
“You don’t want your teammates talking trash. For two years, I’ve been eating hot dogs. This year, I plan to eat a steak,” linebacker Larry Whitfield said.
Whether it’s for the game, or the grub, expect some fiery competition at the ASU Coliseum Thursday at 6 PM.
