With the heavy rain southwest Georgia has seen over the past few days, many local rivers and creeks were expected to flood pretty badly.

The Kinchafoonee Creek in Lee County is currently at 15 feet, which is 2 feet over what is considered the minor flood stage. However, according to EMA director James Howell, this is the highest the creek will get, whereas a couple days ago it was predicted to reach 17 feet.

Albany EMA director James Carswell said the Flint River is not expected to reach the flood stage here in Albany, however it could further south in areas like Bainbridge.

Both directors emphasized while the flooding is not supposed to be severe, it’s still not something to mess around with. The water in both the river and the creek are fast paced and could carry you off your feet quickly so it’s best not to go near it.
