ALBANY, GA -- The Darton State baseball team has only played two games on the home field, but it's not an out of sight, out of mind situation. Ask any of the Cavaliers opponents, the team is proving to be the tough out.
Fresh off a 12-4 win at national power Chipola, the Cavaliers are 8-4 through a strong schedule.
It may get stronger this weekend against the nation's best teams in Florence, South Carolina. Although, the Cavaliers are stuck in wait and see mode. DC has to hope and pray rain won't cancel the three games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Region baseball is creeping around the corner, but the mentality stays the same for the Cavaliers. Like every other successful team, the intention is to win every game. On the competition front, Darton State prefers to focus on the arms and bats they face everyday.
“They're competing now against each other. If you can get that, where they're competing against each other...then we've got a real good chance,” Cavaliers Head Coach Scot Hemmings said.
“I try to be the best one out here which is difficult with all of this talent. It's something we have to do...we have competition each day,” infielder Nate Ferrell said.
