ALBANY, GA. --

Tax season is here and people who would like to file for free can do so online through the Internal Revenue Service.

Wednesday was the first day to use the IRS Free File program.

The program is only available to people who make less than $57,000 a year.

Officials say electronic filing leaves little room for error while guaranteeing a speedy process.

While 3.7 million people filed their taxes electronically last year, experts predict that number will rise to 3.8 million in 2013.

“You would have to go through our website at IRS.gov and click on free file and from there it will take you to the 15 private sector companies that we have partnership with and they will assist you in preparing and completing your tax return,” said Mark Green, IRS Media Specialist.

Although the tax deadline date is set for midnight April 15th, if you file an extension you can still use free file services.
