ALBANY, GA -- A former US gold medalist arrived in Albany Saturday to promote a sport gaining some speed in Southwest Georgia.

1994 speed skating gold medalist Dan Jansen spoke at Phoebe’s Regional Coaches Sports Symposium. The eight time world record holder and four time Olympian had some special visitors in attendance in a local speed skating team, the GT Speed.

Even in an unexpected climate with balmy January temperatures, speed skating is alive and well to these young skaters. Jansen's message was clear to the young skaters.

“Look, we all like to win, but it's not all about that. It's about getting out there enjoying what you do, working hard for the results that you get…take the results that you get and do the very best you can,” Jansen said.
