ALBANY, GA --
The City of Albany Board of Commissioners opened their 2013 calendar Tuesday, with their first issue regarding a residential group home.

Group homes have been a hot topic for the city in the last year, with several different companies looking to open their facilities in vacant neighborhood homes. The home provides those who can't live on their own due to medical and mental disabilities the chance to live outside of a hospital, and in their own environment.

However, neighbors around the home are protesting the home being put in, citing concerns that it will drive home values down and cause a hazard for the area.

The commission had set a moratorium on the issue in late 2012, and today the company wishing to begin work on the home asked for that moratorium to be lifted.

Neighbors packed the meeting room and voiced their concerns, with the company stating that those individuals aren't educated in what a group home actually is, and how it functions.
