Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has been named one of the top large hospitals in the state of Georgia by Georgia Trend http://www.georgiatrend.com/.

Georgia Trend released their list of 72 different facilities that excel in areas such as quality of care, patient satisfaction, mortality and readmission statistics and data on hospital-acquired infections and conditions. The information comes from publicly available information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Joel Wernick, Phoebe president/CEO, said the rankings reflect the organization’s system-wide focus on quality in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. “We know our patients and communities expect high quality care delivered by healthcare professionals in the safest possible settings,” he said. “We’re proud to be ranked highly in our state. Phoebe’s doctors, nurses and staff put the patient first, and that commitment is measured in the outcomes of the care we provide.”

The report released by Georgia Trend was divided into five categories: Teaching Hospitals, Large Hospitals (400 beds or more), Medium Size Hospitals (151-399 beds), Small Hospitals (fewer than 150 beds), and Critical Access Hospitals (rural community hospitals).

Wernick said the Georgia Trend article and rankings gave the public a sound perspective on why hospitals are focused on quality initiatives. “Our goal is to

give patients the best possible care always, in every encounter,” he said. “We also know quality initiatives will increasingly become the vehicle to reduce healthcare costs in our country.”
