ALBANY, GA -- The Albany State volleyball team had all the confidence in the world entering this week's SIAC tournament with a perfect 16-0 conference record.
All the expectations, as well as all the pressure, hung over the Lady Rams and that may have been their downfall as the top seed.
It was Clark Atlanta that played like the best team in the conference Wednesday at HPER Gym. In straight sets, the Lady Panthers took apart the Lady Rams who are now destined for the loser’s bracket.
ASU Head Coach Robert Skinner blamed overconfidence for the Lady Rams performance.
“We've got an X on our back. Everybody wants us, we're the number one seed, we're hosting so why wouldn't you want to beat us? I would want to beat us if I were one of the other teams. I just do not believe we took it seriously. I just don't think we came prepared to play today...I really don't,” Coach Skinner said.
The Lady Rams face Fort Valley State in the loser’s bracket Thursday at 10 AM. With a win, ASU has to continue its marathon run with another game at 2 PM.
