BACONTON, GA -- Playing as a non-region participant, a unique situation follows the Baconton Charter Blazers for another two football seasons.

This will be the third year of Baconton football, but the Blazers are only playing a portion of a full region schedule.

As a non-region team, when Baconton's ten games are done, there's no shot at the GHSA State Playoffs, but that doesn’t bother Baconton Head Coach Johnny Hayes.

The 2011 Blazers defensive coordinator and longtime high school coach took over for Glenn Palmer as summer workouts commenced. Hayes dropped in to a tough situation demands toughness from his Blazers.

“We're trying to get tough, stay tough. I think we've gotten better, but we've still got a ways to go. Kids are working- great attitude, great senior leadership. We'll get better everyday at practice and compete every week. To me, that's what I'm looking for,” Hayes said.

Baconton is led by nine dedicated seniors on a roster of 36 players. The Blazers scrimmage against Mitchell County in Camilla Friday night.
