ALBANY, GA -- Albany's Doublegate Country Club hosted the final round of the Georgia Junior Golf Championship on Wednesday. Four South Georgia golfers stayed under the cut line entering the finale, but it didn’t matter much.

Duluth-native Andy Shim was in complete control of the field from Monday’s first round to Wednesday afternoon. Shim beat 2011 champion Greyson Sigg by five strokes finishing at 11-under.

Shim earned an exemption to July’s Georgia Amateur Championship and a spot in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge match. The top eight finishers are guaranteed a spot for the cross-state match in late July.

Albany-native Jacob Joiner didn’t factor much in to the final grouping, but snagged an alternate spot for the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge match with a 10th place finish.

Joiner is hoping that alternate spot turns into the real deal as the tournament moves closer.

“I had a couple of friends go there (the Georgia-South Carolina Challenge) last year and they were telling me how awesome it was to play in the tournament and how good the competition was. I'm hoping I can get a chance to go play them, help the team out a little bit,” Joiner said.

It took a playoff hole victory over Kennesaw’s Tyler Young, but Joiner earned his spot. After Young sunk a par on the 10th, the 16-year-old from Albany nailed a birdie putt to finish with a three-over for the tournament.

“The first two days I really struggled with my putter and today, it kind of clicked. I actually made some putts and came out with a good score, a nice 70,” Joiner said.
