ALBANY, GA -- A quick glance over the 2010 Monroe football record just won’t do justice to head coach Charles Truitt and his crew on Lippitt Drive. The Tornadoes finished with a losing record of 4-6, but the way Monroe lost those games tells the story.
Narrow margins turned into last season’s mantra as Monroe lost five of their six games by 10 points or less, including a pair of one point regional losses to Worth and Crisp County.
The Tornado players suffered the setbacks of 2010, but are now returning with more experience ready to finish on the winning side of those close games. Tornado head coach Charles Truitt brings back 17 starters to the 2011- eight on offense and nine on defense.
A team known for its size, athleticism and experience didn’t have all the components show up in a 38-7 scrimmage loss to Lee County last Friday. Truitt is confident his team will put on a better performance this Friday against 1-A Terrell County, and is optimistic for the following nine games of the 2011 regular season.
“If we can get better every week and we can stay away from injuries, I like our chances because we got a number of kids coming back with a great attitude,” Truitt said.
It's 7:30 kick-off for Monroe versus Terrell County on Friday at Hugh Mills Stadium.
