LEESBURG -- The Lee County Trojans are ranked No. 1 in the AAAA Coaches Poll, No. 14 by Baseball America, and are 23-2 on the season. Starting Thursday night, all of that means absolutely nothing.
The Trojans are set to host Glynn Academy in the first round of the State Playoffs on Thursday. The Trojans have been dominant this season, allowing fewer than three runs per game, while scoring nearly eight per contest. Still, players and coaches know in the playoffs none of those stats matter.
"Our pitching has been great all year, our defense has been good, our hitting is coming around," head coach Rob Williams said. "We like how we're playing, but it's win or go home now and the intensity steps up in the best of three series," he added.
Lee County begins the best of three series at home against Glynn Academy on Thursday at 5pm. Game 3, if necessary, will be on Friday.
The Trojans have the advantage of playing in Leesburg, on a field they are unbeaten on this season.
"We've got a great home field advantage," senior Garret Landreneau said.
