ALBANY -- The Monroe Tornadoes and Westover Patriots battled for the Region 1-AAA Men's Track and Field crown just one week ago, with the Patriots winning that battle. Monroe heads to Jefferson this weekend hoping to one-up the Patriots, and take home a State Championship.

The Field events will be held on Thursday in Jefferson, with Track Qualifiers, and Track Finals on Friday and Saturday. Monroe head coach Octavia Jones, whose team qualified in eleven events, says the experienced Tornadoes should know exactly what to expect this weekend.

"I feel like in theĀ eleven events we qualified for in the State Meet, if we can get to the finals, we have an excellent chance of scoring and possibly finishing in the top 4 of the meet," Jones said. "Most of our guys have been there before, so they know what it's like; they're mentally prepared to handle the three days," he added.
