ALBANY -- Many high school athletes dream their entire lives of playing college sports. For Deerfield-Windsor senior Melissa McClure, the dream has not been as long-lived, but the feeling of fulfilling it is definitely as sweet.
"I actually never saw myself playing college softball, but now as a senior, I can't see myself not playing," McClure said after signing her scholarship with Huntingdon College. "It's really great," she added.
McClure, two-time All-State honoree, has been dominant in her five years on the Deerfield-Windsor softball team. Along with a perfect game to her credit last August, McClure owns school records for strikeouts in a game, season, and career. Still she chose Huntingdon for reasons on and off the diamond.
"I was originally almost set on going to ABAC, but then I got a letter from Huntingdon and visited the campus, "McClure said. "I loved the coach and the players," McClure added. "I want to pursue a medical track and they have a very high success rate; I know I can do well there."
