TIFT COUNTY, GA --
The Georgia Department of Transportation is warning citizens to be on the look out for road closures and detours around State Route 520 between Tifton and Brookfield.
Authorities say almost a four mile section of road is closed, along with two bridges near the Tift County fairgrounds.
Communications Officer Craig Solomon says if the water rises up to the beams of a bridge it is protocol to close it. Solomon also says if the water recedes below the beams of the bridge GDOT then has to inspect the bridge as a precautionary measure. There have been reports of boats being used to help some residents of the area.
Georgia DOT has reopened U.S. 82/S.R. 520 to all traffic in Tift and Berrien Counties, between the Tift County Fair Grounds and the City of Alapaha.
Tift County resident Dale Hall took a drive through Tifton early Wednesday morning and documents some of the flooded areas around town. You can watch his video on the TiftonNow blog and view pictures as well.
