ALBANY, GA -- A new scam is going around the United States and is making it's way to Albany.
According to
Snopes.com
, the scam works saying that President Obama, the federal government, or a state agency will pay your utility bill for a month. People then call a number and hand over personal information such as social security and bank account numbers in an attempt to get their bill paid. They will then get a bank routing number to give to the utility provider, which is bogus.
Lorie Farkas with

says that at least one person has tried paying using this method and that others have called inquiring about the scam. Farkas says that people risk their personal information and the late fess that are assessed when the bill remains unpaid.
