ALBANY, GA --

Many people take to the Flint River for summer time activities, however there are some animals you should be wary of while enjoying the Flint River.

Experts from the Chehaw Wildlife Park say you should keep an eye out for alligators, although generally if left alone, they won’t bother you.

Snakes are also common on the Flint river, though many of them are not poisonous.

Chehaw Park's Ben Kirkland says there is one thing you may not think to watch out for, "Probably one of the more dangerous things for folks that we don't think about is a lot smaller, in where people are fishing along the river or whatnot and there is a large red wasp nest that is hanging on the low limbs over the water and you’re not paying attention."

Kirkland also says a good way to insure your safety is to head out with friends and make sure to always carry your cell phone.
