ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook story of the day, we found out about an arthritic condition called Gout, and how it can be prevented.

Gout is an arthritic condition in which the body does not release it's uric acid through urination. Instead, that acid is spread through the blood stream and eventually builds up in the joints. Most commonly, gout is found in the big toe, building up crystals until the victim endures a tremendous amount of pain in that region.

Often Gout sufferers liken the pain to a burning sensation, making it hard to walk on the affected region. However multiple preventions do exist to protect against this condition.

Avoiding alcoholic beverages is the first prevention tactic against Gout. Another is to sustain a healthy diet and be diligent against eating fattening or salty foods. For those that suffer with Gout, continuing to take your medication on a consistent basis is the best way to prevent a "Gout attack."

Men are more likely to have Gout, however, women become more susceptible after menopause.
