ALBANY, GA. -- Dougherty County Commissioner Muarlean Edwards is throwing her name in the hat to run for Georgia’s House Representative District 153.
Edwards held a ceremony at Albany’s Government Center Thursday afternoon to officially announce her candidacy.
She says her work history as a public servant is going to be the "real deal for Governor Nathan Deal."
Edwards was surrounded by family and friends as she talked about why she's running.
“As a county commissioner, I feel that I have been very effective, a team player. Much of the negativity comes from the Atlanta area and that's why I need to go to Atlanta to share with those persons all of the good things that are happening in Albany Georgia,” says Muarlean Edwards, Dougherty County District 3 Commissioner
Tony McBrayer, a Republican out of Tifton, Georgia, is currently the State House Representative for District 153.
