ALBANY, GA. --
It's the start of National Autism Awareness Month and for Tuesday’s Facebook story of the day, fans wanted to know when children should receive autism screenings.

Experts say parents should reach out to medical professionals as soon as their child starts showing behaviors not in line with development guidelines.

Health care professionals say doctors can diagnose the symptoms of autism as early as 13-months-old.

“If they're starting to isolate themselves like if they like to play alone or they’re spinning wheels or lining up toys, any of those are primary red flags that the parent may want to get the child evaluated,” says Katrina Beckhom, Certified Behavioral Analyst.

Beckhom says when a parent feels their child may be autistic, they should partner with a medical professional immediately for a diagnosis and to learn about resources.
