Local groups held a luncheon to educate women on heart disease and prevention measures

ALBANY, GA -- With health experts saying heart disease is the number one cause of death in women, local groups held the “Affair of the Heart” luncheon to educate women.

Southwest Health District Health Director Dr. Jacqueline Grant was the guest speaker. She says Coronary Artery Disease is the leading cause of death in heart disease cases.

Grant says people often don’t give heart health its due diligence.

“What we would like to see is that the women will take in the information, change their habits and focus on themselves,” says Gloria Jefferson, Chapter President of Delta Sigma Theta.

Health experts say high blood pressure and high cholesterol are risks that commonly lead to heart disease.

The Dougherty County Health Department, Albany (GA) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Albany Technical College hosted the event.
