DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -- The Dougherty County Board of Education brought the redistricting plan up for a vote at their Monday evening meeting.

Before the vote, Board Member Darrel Ealum spoke about making changes: Ealum says he wanted to move between four and five streets in the Radium Spring area into District 6 to keep a neighborhood together.

He says the changes would have altered the black voting population from 65.1 percent to 64.9 percent, which he says would have kept the percentage within the redistricting committees goal of close to 65 percent.

The board passed the redistricting plan 4-3 without Ealum’s changes.
