FOLKSTON, GA -- Award-winning Nature Photographer and Instructor, John Reed,  will be at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge on September 17 and 18, and take part in an exciting workshop designed to provide hands-on instruction for nature and wildlife photographers of all skill levels. Hosted in the heart of the “Jewel of the Southeast,” this exciting clinic highlights one of the world’s fastest growing outdoor activities in a setting created to inspire artistry, surrounded by the grandeur of the Okefenokee Swamp.

Whether you’re already a nature photographer or you’re simply interested in finding a new way to express your passion for the outdoors, we encourage you to join John and the staff at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge for our Summer Nature Photography Workshop, a fun, hands-on approach to the science behind the lens. Take advantage of one of the nation’s most unique natural ecosystems - the Okefenokee Swamp - and benefit from the expertise of a local, award winning photographer as you gain experience that will help you advance your skill as a nature and wildlife photographer! The workshop will be held Saturday, September 17 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 18 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pre-registration is highly recommended!

The workshop will focus on photography concepts and principles such as exposure, metering, composition, “seeing,” digital camera basics, and more. Course attendees will receive personal, one-on-one attention from John himself throughout the seminar; as such, class space is limited and pre-registration is highly encouraged. It is also recommended that participants familiarize themselves with camera controls and settings prior to the workshop.

Check-in for the workshop will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 at the Refuge’s Environmental Education classroom, located approximately 12 miles southwest of Folkston, GA, off Hwy 121/23, at the west end of Suwannee Canal Road, behind the Okefenokee Adventures building. Participants must provide their own camera and equipment for the workshop—no cameras, lenses, tripods, etc. will be provided. Lunch may be purchased at the Camp Cornelia Café at Okefenokee Adventures.

Workshop fees are $45 if payment is received by August 29, $50 after August 29, and $55 when paid at the door. Payment should be made by cash or check to Okefenokee Wildlife League (OWL), 4155 Suwannee Canal Road, Folkston, GA 31537. The $5.00 refuge entrance fee is not included in the registration fee.

To register, and for more information, contact the Richard S. Bolt Visitor Center at (912) 496-7836 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily or visit www.fws.gov/okefenokee/.
