Artists, volunteers paint recreation area
ALBANY, GA -- Artists began work on an outdoor recreation area at Lincoln Elementary School early Saturday morning, a weeklong project to paint the school's backyard lot and promote healthy activities.
The project, which is a collaborative effort between The Albany Museum of Art and Lincoln Elementary School, was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, a national outreach program aimed at getting children healthier.
Lowe’s and Home Depot donated the paint and supplies for the project.
“What we’re doing here is creating an area to get the students more active, and involved,” said Wilena Clark, and volunteer and parent. “This morning what we’re doing is kind of an outline of various activities stemming from a maze, hopscotch, foursquare.”
A large map of the United States and an area for African dance activity are also part of the design.
Artists will complete the chalk outlines of the designs Saturday, and finish the project next weekend.
