ALBANY, GA -- The City of Albany is looking to cut fuel costs.

They're spending twice as much on fuel in the budget this next fiscal year as they did last year.

At the meeting Tuesday, it was reported that the city's estimated expenditures on fuel will be $3.5 million.

Mayor Willie Adams is thinking of putting the AVL system in each of the cars--it's the GPS system that's in each of the fire department vehicles and police vehicles so the city knows exactly where each car is.

Adams thinks this will promote more responsibility among vehicle use.

“I don't have any figures, but I have a gut feeling we can save about 20% of our fuel cost if we introduce this system,” says Mayor Adams.

The city owns approximately 890 vehicles, 22 of those are administrative vehicles.
