Thousands of people showed up to McDonald’s locations nationwide, looking for a job as part of the company’s National Hiring Day

ALBANY, GA -- Thousands of people showed up to McDonald’s locations nationwide, looking for a job as part of the company’s National Hiring Day.

The company said they were looking to bring in 35,000 to 50,000 new employees on the day. Local operators said they want to hire about 30 new employees in the Albany area.

“McDonalds has gotten all the operators together and we've all agreed that this would be a fantastic day to share with people what McDonalds is all about and to try to employ some more folks,” said Michael Harris, Owner of the Albany locations.

McDonald’s restaurants did on-the-spot interviews from 9a.m. to 7p.m. for both management and crewmember positions.

M.C. May showed up at the North Slappey McDonalds Tuesday. He sees the fast food chain as the launching point to a new career.

“I'm actually changing my field after 12-and-a-half years of the military. I just want to come on to this side and get my foot in the door and eventually work my way up into a franchise,” said May.

May has been out of a job since September.

“I've been putting in applications all over the place, but that's just the way it is,” he said. “I thought it was just going to be a breeze for me because I took all kinds of vocational rehab, I’m constantly at the Department of Labor. I'm filling out three or four applications a day, and this with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

He thinks today was the day he starts drawing a pay check again.

“I can't speak for everybody else, but I think this is a good day for me. I came out, I’m prepared and I got all the necessary stuff I need. And I wish everybody the best of luck but there are a lot of people out here and we all can't make it,” said May.

“I'm just looking for a job in general. It doesn't matter what I get, I just want some money coming in,” said Tony Fuller Jr., who also interviews Tuesday.

“I'm like any other employer, I look at folks and I look how their dressed and how they present themselves and during the initial interview, we're looking for their back ground and what they can bring to the table as far as helping us do what we do,” said Fuller.
