The Instructional Accountability Committee met to hash out more details about the federally funded School Improvement Grant
The Dougherty County School Board will decide in the next 24 hours whether or not to go ahead with a grant that would fire principals at two high schools.
The Instructional Accountability Committee met to hash out more details about the federally funded School Improvement Grant. If the system applies and the money is awarded, the district would fire the principals at Albany and Dougherty high schools. After a year, teachers who didn’t perform up to standards would also be released.
Board Members Michael Windom and Dr. Anita Williams-Brown support the grant.
“It would be unfortunate that we do have to replace the principals,” Windom said. “But this is a part of the model that we need to do because if you’re serious about student achievement, sometimes you have to take drastic measures.”
The board will take an informal vote tomorrow on whether or not to continue the grant application process.
