Former State Representative and Albany City Commissioner, Mary Moss Young Cummings of Albany died Saturday at the age of 66.

Young Cummings was born in Fitzgerald and got her law degree at Howard law school in Washington, D.C. she played a large role in the Civil Rights movement and was arrested for demonstrating at segregated lunch counters, restaurants and movie theaters. She was the second black person to practice law in Albany.

In the late seventies, she served eight years as a City commissioner and was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 1982.
