Emory University to host famed Sudanese refugee

The event will feature a keynote address by Deng, whose life was chronicled in Dave Eggers' best-selling book
(AP) -- Emory University is bringing Sudanese refugee Valentino Achak Deng to campus for a public forum.
The event will feature a keynote address by Deng, whose life was chronicled in Dave Eggers' best-selling book "What is the What?" Deng fled ethnic violence in Sudan in the 1980s and resettled in Atlanta. Now he tours the globe talking about the struggles of refugees.
The Nov. 12 event will feature a keynote address by Deng on his efforts to start a new secondary school in his home village of Marial Bai, Sudan. He also is expected to talk about the needs of refugees in Atlanta.
The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Woodruff Health Sciences Administration building.
