Jury convicts one on lesser charge in Moultrie murder

23-year-old Tyrus Carter was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, and is now awaiting his July 10th sentencing

A jury found the first of two men charged with an October 2006 shooting death not guilty of felony murder, but did convict him  on a lesser charge.

23-year-old Tyrus Carter was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, and is now awaiting his July 10th sentencing.  Carter and 22-year-old Anthony Jerome Thompson are on trial for the October 2006 murder of 21-year-old Diego Gomez in Moultrie.  Thompson's first trial ended in a hung jury and now Carter is on trial with him.

Testimony in Thompson's trial started today and will continue tomorrow.
