With all the water Albany has seen over the past nine days, the creeks have nowhere to drain out excess water

Folks in southwest Georgia are trying to get back to normal after nine days of rain and thunderstorms.

However, with the rain past us, officials say the water is still an issue. The Flint River crested Sunday morning at 30 feet--ten feet above flood stage level. Fire Chief James Carswell says it will crest again Tuesday at 28 feet.  Many folks prepared for the extra water with sandbags handed out by the Public Works Department. Some even went to the Beattie Road Church of Christ, which acted as a shelter. However, there were some folks who waited until the last moment and had to be rescued by boat.

If you have any damage, call the Fire Department or the Red Cross. GEMA officials will be surveying the area to determine if we will see any state funding.
