(AP) -- While many Georgians are in Washington, D.C., to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama, some of the people who once helped Jimmy Carter win the nation's highest office are gathering in his hometown of Plains.

Carter is from the southwest Georgia city, and the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is hosting an Inaugural Day event on Tuesday at the Plains High School Museum/Visitor Center.  Among those expected to attend are some campaign workers and
supporters of Carter who traveled to Washington aboard the train dubbed the "Peanut Special" from Plains to attend the ceremonies when Carter took office in 1977.

Harold Isaacs, professor of history at Georgia Southwestern State University, will speak at the event.
