CRISP COUNTY, GA -- For two years straight, the offers just kept coming in for Crisp Academy pitcher Jordan Howard. But, despite all the efforts, Howard signed with the baseball team that stayed with him from the beginning.
Howard signed with FCS school, Georgia Southern, Wednesday declining offers from the likes of Stanford and Georgia Tech.
The Eagles offered Howard when he was a sophomore in high school, and that longtime commitment paid off. Though, turning down those programs wasn’t easy.
“It was hard, but I had my heart set on it early and grew fonder of it as I went along. It would've had taken a lot to get me away from there (Georgia Southern). I appreciate the interest of Stanford and (Georgia) Tech, but Southern was definitely the right decision,” Howard said.
Howard has admitted more difficult decisions are coming ahead as the pitcher is expected to be drafted in the 2013 MLB Draft. Howard only offered up a “we’ll see” and a smile when asked about a professional path.
