ALBANY, GA --
Carla Hawkins with the Multicultural Donation Education Program and Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler teamed up to host an event Thursday afternoon to raise awareness of organ donation.

Hawkins says we are in a serious shortage of donors and she believes it’s because of the fear and misconceptions people have about being a donor.

Bobby Howard, a former player for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers, who is also the recipient of a kidney was at the event to talk about his journey.

Howard said there’s a good chance he wouldn’t be standing here today if it weren’t for someone making the decision to be a donor.

Howard adds that you never know when it’s going to be you or someone that you love that needs a donor so it’s important to step up to the plate and help out other people who are in that situation.
