ALBANY, GA --
The National Youth Sports Program (NYSP), a free of charge summer program for children 8-15, is asking for the city of Albany's help in funding this year's program.

The city had previously provided funds for the program, but stopped two years ago after questions regarding faculty member salaries.

Jesse Massey, the liaison for the local NYSP, responded by saying people have to get paid.

NYSP is asking for $15,000-$20,000 for their 4-5 week enrichment summer program. It provides a safe environment for children to exercise there mind and body. Massey says its a great way to keep kids off the street and out of trouble.

Due to lack of funding, the NYSP had to charge children a $100 fee last year. They saw enrollment drop from upwards of 500 children to below 230.

The Albany City Commission asked for a closer look at how the money will be spent before the make a decision but they seemed to be open to the idea.
