ALBANY, GA --
An early evening traffic accident on South Slappey Boulevard has left one person in the hospital.

According to Albany police, the three car accident happened around 8 PM Tuesday night.

According to officers, a Nissan Maxima driven by 79-year-old Betty Thomas was attempting to turn left into to the parking lot of Popeye’s, when she turned into the path of a Nissan Altima driven by 18-year-old Sherod Oliver. Oliver's vehicle struck the right side of Thomas' vehicle, stopping in the roadway facing south.

Officers say Sherod exited the vehicle to assess the damage when a Chevy Malibu struck Sherod's vehicle in the rear bumper, propelling it into the intersection of Lippitt and South Slappey Boulevard. Sherod was injured during the second crash impact.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu fled the scene of the accident on foot and the Albany Fire Department responded to a fire in the Malibu.

Sherod was transported to Phoebe Putney with unknown injuries.

Thomas has been cited with failure to yield while turning left and charges are pending against the driver of the Malibu.
