ALBANY, GA --
Marines at the Marine Corps Logistics Base representing the different uniforms throughout the years surrounded a massive three-tier cake in honor of the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

On November 10th, 1775 the Marine Corps was created. Every year, bases throughout the country celebrate the birth with a ceremony of symbolism.

During the ceremony, the oldest marine on base cuts the first slice of cake to serve to the youngest marine as a sign of passing down tradition.

To continue the celebration and tradition, MCLB, Marine Corps Logistics Command and other commands will hold their annual Birthday Ball at Darton State College on Thursday.

The base says while the cake is enjoyable, the true importance of the celebration is the symbolism it represents in preserving the traditions over the years.
