LEESBURG, GA --
Theatre students at Lee County High School have collected nearly 3000 pounds of food for the needy as part of the Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat community service program.

Theatre honors students from Lee County High visited homes in neighborhoods across the Leesburg/Albany area on Halloween to accept donations from generous families to support Second Harvest food bank of South Georgia.

Student dropped off paper bags with a note explaining what they were doing the Saturday before Hallowee, but they also knocked on a few doors unannounced.

"They were very shocked, they were like do you guys want some candy?... (We were like) No, we want canned food, we want to donate it. They were like ok this is kind of strange but it's a good thing, so it was a nice response," explaned Tiffani Miller the President of LCHS Drama Club.

LCHS officials say this is the first year that Lee County’s thespians have joined the program, but they hope to make it an annual project. More than 20 students assisted by two parent volunteers, coordinated the group’s effort to collect both food and monetary donations to aid local families in need as the holiday season approaches.

The Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat community service program sponsored by the International Thespian Society and the Educational Theatre Association.
