ATLANTA, GA --
The Supreme Court of Georgia has ordered a new trial for a man convicted of murder in Berrien County.
John Dennis Woods was convicted in 2009 of killing Travis Sauls after what Woods defined as a self-defense situation.
It was later determined in the trial that Woods may have suffered from a mental illness, causing him to think Sauls was a danger to his life.
Because the trial court failed to instruct jurors on the law of self-defense prior to deliberating, the trial has been thrown out and a new one must be conducted.
