ALBANY, GA -- Calhoun County High School hosted a health fair this weekend put on by Columbus State College.

In the last year, Calhoun County was ranked as the most unhealthy county in Georgia by the Population Health Institute at the University of Wisconsin. But officials with the health fair say the citizens aren't to blame.

"Access to care is also a big thing, they're a rural community, they're genetically predisposed, African Americans have about 3.7% higher instances of asthma and allergies, then Caucasians, that's just the way it is. Poverty level has a lot to do with it too," said Health Fair organizer, Jon Ramsey.

And this yearly health fair is taking the steps necessary to make sure kids are educated on healthy habits.

"You have to know what you're dealing with in order to be safe with your health," said Edison resident, Jamal Price.

"To me it means they really care about us, and how we feel about our body’s health and stuff," said Edison Resident, Jav'on Reynolds

Since the health fair's start last year, Calhoun County has moved up two spots on the list, showing that these healthy habits are starting to take root.
