Rosalynn Carter attends care giving presentation

AMERICUS, GA -- Georgia Southwestern State University had a special visitor during a presentation Thursday morning.

Rosalynn Carter, wife of former president Jimmy Carter, attended a speech by Georgia National Guard's Colonel Brent Bracewell.

The presentation was part of the Rosalynn Carter Institute's Annual Caregiver Summit. This year's theme is "Enabling Caregiving Communities Across the Lifespan."

Colonel Bracewell talked about the importance of the community in supporting family caregivers by sharing stories of people overcoming struggles.

Both Carter and Colonel Bracewell said many times those who are caregivers, at home or at work, overlook their own health but it is important for these caring individuals to have someone care for them as well.

This year marks the institute's 25th anniversary and the college will host a Gala Awards Banquet recognizing the Georgia Caregivers of the Year and the 2012 Rosalynn Carter Leadership in Caregiving recipient later the same day
