ALBANY, GA --

Darton State College now offers an Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Science. The new program is a two-year degree that prepares students for a career as a radiologic technologist. The program application deadline is November 1, 2012.

 According the to the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the growth rate for radiologic technologists is projected to increase approximately 28 percent between 2010 and 2020. This is primarily due to the increasing age of the population that will have more medical conditions, such as breaks and fractures, which require imaging for treatment.

 Radiographers work in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, physician offices, urgent care facilities, and stand-alone imaging facilities. The annual income for radiologic technologists ranges from $36,510 to $76,850. In 2011, the median annual income for radiologic technologist in Georgia is $46, 380. 

Darton’s program follows approved professional curriculum developed and published by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. Students get hands-on training at various clinical locations throughout Southwest Georgia, and after graduation are eligible to sit for the national certification examination from the American Registry of Radiologis Technologist.

The application deadline for the radiologic science program is November 1, 2012.  Applicants must be accepted by Darton State College before applying for the radiologicscience program.
