ALBANY --
In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know if Georgia residents need a permit to carry a taser.

Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards says there are two different kinds of tasers; one requires a permit and one doesn’t.

The handheld taser that requires contact to be made with a subject in order to work doesn’t require a permit but the taser that shoots wires – commonly used by police departments – is considered a firearm in the state of Georgia and does require a permit.

Edwards says although you need a permit for the shooting taser, you don’t need it if you are storing it in your house, car or property. Only when it leaves your property can you be charged with Carrying a Firearm without a Permit.
